Taking on a land-based project is a big undertaking - physically, financially, and emotionally. Our consultation services are designed to help you better understand your site as well as help you articulate your vision and goals and put you on the path to successful implementation of your project.

We understand that whether you are a homesteader, a backyard gardener or a commercial farm, every project needs to be customized to fit your unique site & environment. That’s why every project we do begins with an in-person consultation. Whether through a phone consultation, a walkthrough or via a detailed assessment, we can help you articulate goals, envision resources and opportunities, understand limitations or constraints, and help you respond creatively to site-specific challenges. 

Below is a list of general consultation options and associated fees. As every site and project can be different, we an adjust a custom consultation package to fit your needs. Let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

There Are 4 options for Consultations:

Option A- Phone/Zoom Consultation

Sometimes, all a client needs to is to connect and share and are looking for some guidance on how to continue with their projects, ask questions about efficient strategies, planning ideas, and suggested practices and to make sure they are thinking of all the important details. This can be the first interaction with potential new design clients whose project is located farther away than is feasible for an onsite visit, and used as a way to get to know you and your project site a bit more in depth or as a meeting with existing clients who are looking for continued support and guidance as they implement a project on their own. For these reasons and more, we are happy to offer phone or zoom sessions. These can be one time sessions, or setup as monthly packages if desired.

Phone/Zoom Consultation Fees: $150 for up to 1.5 hr, $75/hr aftwards.

Option B- Phone/Zoom Assessment

It is surprising how much information is available on the internet about climate, topography, soils, prevailing winds and sun angles for almost any spot in the US (and even the world). Before our meeting extensive site research and a basic design assessment will be performed based upon the site information and your goals. 

On a follow-up call (zoom works well) we will share our research and analysis findings and further discuss with you your projects goals, identifying opportunities and challenges for your property related to your vision in detail and provide you with a basic topographic base map. At the end of the meeting we will also decide the scope and what type of further services may be involved moving forward. (e.g. design, planning, ongoing consulting, etc.)

Phone/Zoom Assessment Fees: 
Small Acre Residential/Homestead                          $275 up to 1.5 hrs, $75/hr afterwards

Large Farm/Commercial Site                                   $399 up to 2 hrs, $75/hr afterwards

Option C- Site Consultation

This basic option is ideal for starters and/or smaller projects, but can also be a first step choice for larger projects and/or properties. It includes an onsite consultation walkthrough without in depth pre-visit research preparations, follow-up report or base map. (These may be added on later for an additional fee) During this visit we will walk and observe your site together, answer questions and give suggestions that fit your goals, needs and what is appropriate for the site/project including a verbal assessment with recommendations and rough sketches when/where appropriate. It is recommended to create a list of focusing questions/notes for our meeting. At the end of the consultation, we can discuss options for further work if desired in the form of ongoing consulting, in depth assessments, design, project implementation etc.

Site Consultation Fees*:

Small Urban/Residential up to 1 Acre              $275 (Up to 1.5 hrs onsite, $100/hr afterwards + Travel)

Small Acre Residential from 1-5 Acres $325 (Up to 2 hrs onsite, $100/hr afterwards + Travel)

Homestead/Farm Site from 5-20 Acres $399 (Up to 2.5 hrs onsite, $100/hr afterwards + Travel)

Large Farm/Commercial Site over 20 Acres $475 (Up to 3 hrs onsite, $100/hr afterwards + Travel)

*Note: As every site is unique, prices for consultations may vary depending on the different research needs, size of property, the scope of the project, site complexities, need for imaging or surveying etc. Travel beyond 60 minutes is rated at halftime + mileage.  Contact us for a quote, and for information for long distance sites.

Option D- In Depth Site Assessment

Can be a stand-alone service, or as the first step in a design process.  This first step allows us to meet face-of-face and view your property/farm live. ​Before the visit: available site maps as well as topographical, geological, ecological and hydrological data & information will be researched and collected. During the assessment we will meet, walk the site and gather important information such as:

·       Your vision and goals

·       Site conditions

·       Opportunities/constraints of the site

·       Available resources and possibilities.

A post assessment analysis report including notes & suggestions about important zone consideration, site conditions, resource opportunities and general planning as well as a simple topographical base map is included. (soil & water lab testing are possible as add-ons) After we meet, talk and discuss your vision and goals, we’ll both know if we’re a fit to work together on your project, decide the scope and what type of services will be involved (e.g. design, ongoing consulting, project installation etc.)

In Depth Site Assessment fees*: Includes pre-visit research prep & post-visit follow-up report with simple base map + optional soil/water lab fees.

Small Urban/Residential up to 1 Acre $375 (Up to 1.5 hrs onsite, $100/hr afterwards + Travel)

Small Acre Residential 1-5 Acres $499 (Up to 2 hrs onsite, $100/hr afterwards + Travel)
